Plato was born around 428 BCE in ancient Greece and was the student of the famed philosopher Socrates, and the teacher of Aristotle. The man left behind a philosophical legacy of unparalleled influence and one of the most profound writers of the Western Canon. The entire history of Western thought and culture revolves around the ideas Plato put forth, and he is often considered the most important figure in the history of philosophy.
